I was the Design & Release Engineer for the nylon intake manifold and foam NVH engine cover for the 2017 Ford 3.5L EcoBoost engine. Designing the intake was my first exposure to injection molding polymers and provided me the opportunity to explore the industry. The intake manifold required many design fields, including trade secret CAD for airpath design, 1D and 3D CFD for performance, sealing for emissions and quality, as well as numerous packaging and fastening strategies.
